What are Green Jobs?

According to the definition of the United Nations Environmental Program, which dates back to over 10 years ago, Green Jobs are all those jobs that "contribute to the reduction of the negative consequences on the environment by promoting the development of companies and economies that are sustainable from an environmental, economic and social point of view." These are activities aimed at preserving or restoring environmental quality in existing sectors or with the potential to create new ones, thanks to the use of renewables and alternative energy sources.

According to the data reported by the International Labor Organization, globally, the possibillity of creating new job positions in the eco-sustainability sector is estimated to be around 24 million, with around 6 million of loss, that is equal to a positive balance of around 18 million by 2030.

In Italy, about 13% of workers deal with environmental sustainability and Milan ranks seventh worldwide among the cities with the highest concentration of professionals in the Green Economy. Stockholm is in first place, followed by Helsinki, Amsterdam, Zurich, Vancouver and London.
