Nagasaki

Thanks to its strategic position, the port city of Nagasaki has always been one of the most important Japanese trading ports. Thanks to its history of international trade, it is also considered a multicultural city in Japan. The Nagasaki Kunchi Festival (長崎くんち) held annually in Nagasaki from October 7th  to 9th is one of the most important festivals in Japan that has been celebrated for over 400 years. During the Festival, about five to seven districts perform traditional Japanese dances and Chinese-inspired dragon dances. The districts perform on a rotation basis of once every seven years. All ceremonies are influenced by Western culture, particularly Germany, Holland, and Portugal, that have influenced its history. It is to pay tribute to the many peoples who arrived in Japan once its borders were opened.
